Johnny Hoogerland (Vacansoleil-DCM) seems to be recuperating slowly but surely after being seriously hurt in a training ride accident.
Today the Dutch rider published a picture on Twitter of his bike mounted on an indoor trainer with the statement, "Here we go, 3 weeks later." Hoogerland later revealed on Twitter that he was able to train for just over an hour, covering 30.18 km during his first ride since his accident.
The 29-year-old Dutch rider suffered major damages three weeks ago when he was hit by a car during a training ride in Spain. The Dutchman broke five ribs, incurred ruptures to his spine and injured his liver. After time spent in the intensive care unit at a hospital in Spain, Hoogerland returned home to the Netherlands where he is currently recuperating from his injuries.
Hoogerland hopes to be back in action in May.
