Kevin Pauwels almost only had to finish the final race in Tabor to win the overall World Cup. By taking fourth, he accomplished his mission comfortably.
"Today one rider was above the rest," he told Sporza. "There was nothing to be done against van der Poel. We could not do any better.
"I was already difficult to follow Meeusen. Then he fell back and Mathieu took over. He suddenly rode faster and I had to let him go. I am left with mixed feelings.
"Winning the World Cup is very beautiful. I definitely did not expect it before the season. I've already won six races so my season could not be better. Still I want to do well at the World Championships. I hope for a hard surface."
