Androni Sidermec tried several times to break away in the first hour of racing in stage 18 of the Giro d'Italia, but various attempts from Marco Frapporti and his teammates were neutralized by the group.
Finally, the team missed the decisive 14-rider break from which stage winner Philippe Gilbert emerged. Instead, the team turned its attention to Franco Pellizotti who finished with the group of Mikel Landa and Fabio Aru.
After the finish of Verbania, Mr. Sidermec - Pino Salvatore Buda - congratulated the team and in particular captain Pellizotti. The team led by Gianni Savio and Giovanni Ellena defended the lead in the sprints and aggressiveness competitions with Marco Bandiera.
