The start of Coppa Agostoni was on late today because of a crash on the road that did not allow teams' buses to get to the start on time, but Pozzato (Lampre-Merida) remained un-baffled and was able to take the victory.
Despite the hitch in the morning, the Italian had few problems preceding, Ponzi (Astana) and Zamparella (Utensilnord) at the end of a very interesting race.
In the demanding final part of the course, a group of 8 riders was at the front of the race but when Vini Fantini increased the pace in the chasing group, the gap to the breakaway began to decrease and the neutralization of the attack was completed at 500 metres to go.
Then, it was Pozzato's turn to obtain his second seasonal victory, the 11th for Lampre-Merida in 2013.
"This success is important for the team, because we raced on hometown roads for our sponsor Lampre, and for me: I received good info about my current fitness level and I know that I must go on in this way in order to perform at top level in the final part of the season,” Pozzato explained. “I want to say thanks to my team mates, they have been outstanding: Durasek was the strongest on the climbs and Favilli gave me a special support in the chasing of the breakaway. Tomorrow I'll take part in Coppa Bernocchi and then I'll fly to Germany to race Vattenfall Cyclassics Hamburg".
