Having taken his first title in 2011, Rasmus Quaade is back in the Danish champion's jersey after having taken a dominant victory in today's time trial championships. The TreFOR-Blue Water rider was in a class of his own and put 1.10 into Christopher Juul-Jensen (Tinkoff-Saxo) on the 40km course. Another Tinkoff-Saxo rider, Michael Valgren, completed the podium.
Three years ago Rasmus Quaade took a surprise victory in the Danish time trial championships when he narrowly beat established WorldTour star Jakob Fuglsang. Since then he has finished second at the 2011 U23 World Championships and sixth at the elite Worlds last September and so was the natural favourite to take back the jersey in today's 2014 edition of the battle for the title.
Unsurprisingly, Quaade proved to be in a class of his own as he covered the 40km course in a time of 50.36 to put 1.10 into Christopher Juul-Jensen. The Tinkoff-Saxo team were unable to challenge the continental rider and had to settle for the places of honour as Michael Valgren completed the podium.
Tinkoff-Saxo are the overwhelming favourites for Sunday's road race which is held on a hilly course in Faaborg.
Result:
1. Rasmus Quaade 50.36
2. Christopher Juul-Jensen +1.10
3. Michael Valgren +1.17
4. Lasse Bøchman +1.49
5. Asbjørn Krag Andersen +1.56
