"For the finish, there was a 3 kilometer climb, but the percentages were tough for only the last 200-300 meters.  I was in a good position, but this was really a finish that suited a type of puncheur that I am not.”

Having recently finished his first Tour de France, talented climber Sebastien Reichenbach made use of his post-Tour condition to finish sixth in today's stage of the Tour du Limoursin. The team result made up for yesterday's disappointment for his IAM team that lost all its GC hopes in the opening stage.

Stage 2 of the Tour du Limousin happily did not resemble stage 1 for IAM Cycling.  The riders for the Swiss Pro Continental team made an important impact on the stage, but unfortunately could not finish it off with a win.  That honor went to Cyril Gautier (Europcar), while Björn Leukemans (Wanty Groupe Gobert) remained the overall leader.

Back in business after the Tour de France, Sébastien Reichenbach grabbed himself a strong sixth place for the stage.  Reichenbach, who comes from the Swiss town of Martigny, was happy with his day.

“This is not a race that will wait for you and my legs were very heavy on the first stage.  Today, though, I found the sensations were already better.  For the finish, there was a 3 kilometer climb, but the percentages were tough for only the last 200-300 meters.  I was in a good position, but this was really a finish that suited a type of puncheur that I am not.”

Kjell Carlström, one of the directeurs sportifs along with Eddy Seigneur, explained the strategy put in place before the beginning of the stage.

“We were left with the impression that this stage could be well suited to a breakaway for a puncheur like Sylvain Chavanel or even a climber like Sébastien Reichenbach.  Everything went as planned.  Jérôme Pineau was involved with a break before the peloton pulled them back under the pressure of team Colombia.

"Sylvain Chavanel then took off alone with 10 kilometers to go.  He was hauled in with 3 kilometers remaining, which gave Sébastien Reichenbach his chance to stay up front.  Unfortunately the climb was not selective enough for him.  But we had a good day.”
