According to a report on Dutch website Wielerflits, Toms Skujins will make his professional debut in the Cannondale Pro Cycling jersey. The 24-year-old rider from Latvia is the current leader of the UCI America Tour. As a neo-pro, Skujins will sign for at least two years.
Skujins has been riding for Hincapie Racing and had an excellent season. In May he won the third stage in the Tour of California (2.HC) and had the leader's jersey for two days. In Canada's Tour de Beauce (2.2) he did a good time trial and stay with the best on the climbs which resulted in the second place in the overall standings. Last year he won two stages and the GC.
Also in the USA Pro Challenge (2.HC) and the Tour of Alberta (2.1) he finished in the top 10, with eighth and seventh places respectively. The Latvian was also on the podium in the UCI 1.2 races Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic (third behind Carlos Barbero and Michael Woods) and Reading 120 (second behind Daniel Summerhill) and he added the Winston Salem Cycling Classic to his palmares in May..
All those results may allow Skujins to win the 2015 America Tour. That is appararently enough for team manager Jonathan Vaughters to add him as the 11th new rider to the Cannondale roster. After a bad year, the team has already announced the signings of Rigoberto Urán, Pierre Rolland, Matti Breschel, Simon Clarke, Lawson Craddock, Phil Gaimon, Patrick Bevin, Michael Woods, Ryan Mullen and Wouter Wippert.
