The legs of the riders will immediately be tested after the rest day, as the riders have to climb the Port d’Envalira right after the start in stage 10 of the Tour de France. With a summit at 2408 metres it’s the highest point of this year’s Le Tour de France ! The rest of the course is much easier, with only a third category climb close to the finish. The stage win could very likely go to a rider from the breakaway.
Jürgen Roelandts (Lotto Soudal) shares his thoughts.
“Today’s stage has two obstacles that will determine the race: we start with a climb of 23 kilometres, which makes many riders won’t be starting with a smile today, but others will be keen on getting into the breakaway. If a large group gets away, which I expect, it will almost be impossible to sprint for the victory in Revel. On top of that there is a nasty climb at seven kilometres from the finish, perfect for an attack. The first climb is tough, but if I can, I might try to escape the peloton. After the climb it goes downwards and then we can see what the advantage is over the bunch.”
