For the second year in a row, Samuel Sanchez finds himself without a team for the upcoming season. This time, however, the Spaniard is calm and claims that it is up to himself to decide whether he wants to continue his career.

Of the 77 Spanish riders who have no contract for 2015, 4 are from the WorldTour: the 3 Movistar riders Ivan Gutierrez, Enrique Sanz and Francisco Ventoso and BMC's Samuel Sacnhez. Despite being in the same position as he was at the end of 2013, Sanchez feels calm about his future.

"I am calm and relaxed and do not worry about next year. My situation is not comparable with the one of last year when Euskaltel-Euskadi folded and it was very hard for me," he told Ciclo21.

What gives Sanchez peace is a concrete offer to stay in the peloton in 2015, and even though he refuses to confirm the suggestion, it seems clear that BMC have offered to extend his contract.

"Any decision will be made by me. If I want, I will keep riding because I have an offer but I have not signed anything yet. I am not in a hurry. My agent was in Japan for the Saitama Criterium and I will talk to him when re returns."

It seems that it will only be a matter of time before Sanchez confirms that he will be riding in the WorldTour in 2015. The Olympic champion from Beijing has a strong motivation to continue at the highest level even though he will turn 37 in February and has already done 14 seasons as a professional.

"I have earned lots of praise from teammates like Gilbert. And if I decide to continue, I will do because I like it and because I have done it since I was 11 years old. I have gained experience and my results are good. I was with the best in the Vuelta a Espana and proved my competitiveness whenever I got the chance to play my own card." The Spaniard finished sixth overall in the Spanish grand tour.

The big disappointment was not to get selected for the Worlds in Ponferrada.

"The only thing I complain about is the fact that [natonal coach Miguel] Minguez didn't call me to tell me about the non-selection but of course I respect his decision to omit me."

Sanchez would also have liked to win a race in 2014.

"I was close in the stage to Arrate at the Vuelta al Pais Vasco and in Lombardy where I was fifth and had my chances. I was in the group with Gilbert but it wasn't to be."

Overall the balance is positive.

"BMC are satisfied with me and I am pleased with them. I have adapted very well and I have made ​​new friends which is always important. I have contributed significantly to the victories of Gilbert in Amstel Gold Race , ZLM Toer and now in China . In todase I was playing a support role. We were second in the teams ranking of the WorldTour so it's been a good year."

In 2014, Sanchez had 83 days of competition.
