Nino Schurter, a Swiss mountain-bike star, will represent Orica-Green Edge in 2014, but only for two Swiss World Tour races, namely Tour de Romandie and Tour de Suisse, according to velovert.com.
Schurter was exceptional in cross-country races, winning the gold medal for 3 times in World Championships and 2 times in World Cup overall. He won a bronze medal in Beijing olympics and a silver in London olympics as well.
Now the 27-year-old Swiss will try some new challenge, he'll join the ranks of Orica-Green Edge team in the aformentioned Swiss races. Notably, Schurter rides on Scott bikes, which OGE team uses as well.
One could look at another rider with similar background. Jean-Christophe Peraud, another mountain-bike cross-country star, chose to attempt road racing after his Beijing olympic silver. He was pretty successful, utilizing his good time-trial ability and decent climbing skills to obtain multiple top-10 results in one-week races, and most importantly, 10th overall in 2011 Tour de France.
