In the queen stage of the Vuelta, Romain Sicard proved himself worthy of his leadership status within Team Europcar. He was one of the first to attack and ended up in the breakaway. He was caught in the final and is finished in a beautiful 18th place. He is now 12th in GC.
"We had nothing to lose, so we tried. In these races, it is better to be in front than behind. So there are no regrets. The agreement was very bad, there was no cooperation in the break, I think that was their tactics. There were many people in front, so we never got the advantage that we had expected," he told Cyclingpro.net.
It was finally Mike Landa who won from the break. "He immediately showed his abilities, I know him very well since I rode with him at Euskaltel. I know he is one of the best climbers in the world. But you can't ask any questions about these stages. You must just give everything."
Sicard plans to attack again. "Yes I am fit, but there are many good riders here. The goal is still to win a stage, we have to continue to work hard and we will see from day to day." Maybe I will attack again in the weekend."
