CULT Energy Pro Cycling Swede, Gustav Larsson participated in today’s morning breakaway during the 183 kilometer long and hilly third and penultimate stage of Giro del Trentino from Ala to the steep uphill finish in Fierozzo del Dei Mocheni.
15 riders including CULT Energy Pro Cycling’s time trial specialist, Gustav Larsson broke clear from the start of the stage and developed a promising gap to the field, which was animated by Team Sky. Entering the final part of the mountainous stage, Colombia joined forces with the British team and started reeling the escapees back in before the foot of the uphill finish.
Dominico Pozzovivo (AG2R) was the first rider across the finish line shadowed by race leader Richie Porte (Sky) who retained the overall lead of the race.
DS André Steensen comments:
“We were one man down from the beginning of the stage as Linus (Gerdemann) had to pull the plug due to stomach flu but Gustav sought the opportunity from the start of the day and when 15 riders made it in the breakaway, I thought they would have a good chance of making it. But as the teams in the field worked together in the chase, it was over.”
The race ends tomorrow.
