Southeast will be in Apeldoorn at the start of the 2016 Giro d'Italia. The Italian formation has won the Coppa Italia teams classification and will therefore automatically receive a wildcard according to an agreement between the Italian cycling federation and Giro organizers RCS Sport The team beat MTN-Qhubeka into second.
This is the second consecutive win for the team and last year's victory opened the door for this year's participation. 26-year-old Venezuelan Yonathan Monsalve finished in 30th place as the best rider of the team in the final standings.
In past years, the team has been tainted by several doping cases, most notably in the 2013 Giro where both Danilo Di Luca and Mauro Samtambrogio were embroiled in scandals (Di Luca tested positive before the race but was expelled two days before the end when the result of the analysis came out). This year they have not been involved in any doping issues.
