4th, 8th and 10th. Team Southeast took three spots in the top 10 at GP Industria & Commercio di Prato with Luca Wackermann, Manuel Belletti and Simone Ponzi. It was impressive by the former who found himself in a group of 5 riders who fought for the victory after launching an attack on his own 70km from the finish on the climb of Montemurlo.
Wackermann was caught by Vincenzo Nibali, Marco Marcato, Davide Rebellin and Daniele Bennati who cooperated until the end, leaving the main group behind. In the final sprint the fastest man was Bennati.
The group arrived at 28” and the sprint was won by Sonny Colbrelli with Manuel Belletti 8th and Simone Ponzi 10th.
Team Southeast will stop for a few days due to the World Championships in Richmond before returning with Tre Valli Varesine and Tour de l’Eurometropole.
“I’m happy because I rode as protagonist of the race and this 4th place gives me motivation for the end of the season,” Luca Wackermann said.
“The guys did it well, always riding in the front during the whole race. Luca was really brave trying from so far out but in this way he moved up before Vincenzo Nibali and he could fight for the race in the end. Unluckily the others were better in the sprint but I can say that I’m satisfied," sports director Luca Amoriello said.
