The Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana will be back on the calendar in 2016 and will kick off with a time trial, the organizers have announced
The race returns to the Spanish calendar after eight years of absence and will be held from the 3rd to the 7th of February as a 2.1 event. It is organized by former professionals, brothers Rafael and Angel Luis Casero - the 2001 Vuelta a Espana champion.
The organizers have confirmed an opening time trial in Castellon but have not given more details. The Volta will be held after the Challenge Mallorca in February and will be followed by the Vuelta a Murcia, Clasica Almeria and Vuelta a Andalucía.
The race was held from 1954 to 2008 without interruptions. The last winner was Rubén Plaza in 2008. Jalabert, Vinokourov, Olano, Zulle, Valverde and Petacchi were some of the past winners.
The Volta a Comunitat Valenciana is the big news of the Spanish calendar which will have a total of 21 races, eight stage races and 13 one-day races. However, it is unbalanced as there will only be six events after the month of April.
