Astana still don't know whether they will get a WorldTour license for 2015. That decision was expected today but Astana will remain in the waiting room. The International Cycling Union UCI will first have to study new elements in the file.
Astana is still awaiting a decision by the UCI License Commission which has examined the Kazakh team after the recent doping cases in and around the team. However, things have become complicated after the public prosecutor has made a report in the Padova case that strongly links the team to banned doctor Michele Ferrari. Today La Gazzetta dello Sport has revealed a list of 38 riders that have been linked to the doctor and indicate that organized doping may have taken place within the Astana team.
UCI president Brian Cookson has made it clear that the UCI first who wants to investigate the new revelations before making a decision.
"The allegations are extremely serious. These new elements have not been taken into account in the report by the License Commission," Cookson said today according to Velonews.
The UCI is now waiting for evidence from the Italian Cycling Federation and the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI). "Then we will make a decision," he says.
