Rein Taaramae (Cofidis) heads into today's final big mountain test at the Tour of Turkey beaming of confidence. After getting safely through yesterday's rolling stage, he is ready to take on Adam Yates on the big summit finish in Selcuk
Rein Taaramae proved to be clearly the strongest rider when the Tour of Turkey peloton took on the steep Elmali climb and that performance has left the Estonian race leader with plenty of confidence ahead of today's final mountain stage of the race. Despite getting under pressure in yesterday's rolling stage by a strong breakaway that included potential GC threat Fabricio Ferrari, he was never worried and is now ready for the final big challenge of the race.
“I spent a rather quiet day," he said. "The break was a good thing because there were not too many riders in front. I was never worried. The course was ideal for the sprinters were a little short in the end.
"I thought I had never ridden those roads but I actually knew them. When Kudus attacked, I was aware he was well placed overall but I was not stressed because I had done the same thing in 2010 and I had hardly taken 20 seconds. The peloton had made it back on me very easily and it was the same again today.
"For tomorrow’s potentially decisive stage, I’m confident because I have good legs. I’m not sure to keep my leader’s jersey, you can never say such a thing, but I have trust in my team and in my current abilities.”
