Accodring to Gazzetta dello Sport, Fabio Aru’s outstanding performance in the recently concluded Giro d’Italia has sparked considerable interest within the strongest WorldTour squads, and reportedly both BMC and Team Sky are ready to buy the young Italian off his current contract with Astana.
The 23-year old Sardinian gave early indications of being the future grand tour contender while riding in a support of Vincenzo Nibali in last year’s edition of the Giro d’Italia, but managed to live up to such expectations sooner that anyone might have thought. Aru once again appeared in the Italian three-week event as Kazakh team’s second option this year, but quickly took over the reins after Michele Scarponi cracked and emerged as the second strongest climber of the race, eventually finishing on the podium.
Aru’s contract with Astana is running until the end of 2015 season, but a sudden explosion of his talent and accordingly increasing ambitions force to ask important questions about the possibility of peaceful coexistence between two Italian stars.
While the 23-year old Sardinian-born rider is about to discuss his situation with Kazakh team’s manager, Alexandre Vinokourov, to get a better understanding of his options within Astana, several strong WorldTour squads expressed their interest in signing the young Italian cyclist before his current contract comes to an end.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, both BMC and Team Sky are ready to buy Aru off his current contract with Astana and offer a three-year deal with two million euro per season as reported salary.
