The teams for the Flemish opening weekend, consisting of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, have been announced.
21 teams have so far been invited to the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, all WorldTour or Professional Continental teams. It remains to be seen whether additional teams will be invited at a later date. At Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, 11 WorldTour outfits are joined by eight Professional Continental teams and six Continental squads for a total field of 25 teams.
The Omloop Het Nieuwsblad will be held on 1st March. Due to its position on the calendar, it is called the openingsklassieker (or opening classic) in Dutch; and 11 WorldTour teams as well as 10 Professional Continental squads will start their classics season here.
With Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne held the next day, many teams have been invited to both races; all WorldTour and six of the Professional Continental teams double up on the weekend of 1st and 2nd March. Of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad invitees, only Androni Giocattoli-Venezuela and Team MTN Qhubeka weren't selected. Instead, six Continental teams, most of which hail from Belgium, have been invited.
