Two days ago Niki Terpstra added the final edition of the Amstel Curacao Race to his palmares. The Dutch Omega Pharma-Quick Step rider was first across the line in the scorching hear on the Caribbean Island where he also was the strongest in 2012. He beat Tim Wellens and Sebastian Langeveld into the minor position.s

It was the final time the Amstel Curacao Race was on the calendar. Organizer Leo van Vliet will pull the lug after this year because it has become increasingly difficult to attract the top riders.

"It is unfortunate that this race is now over," Terpstra told Telesport. "Three times I have had a grea holiday where the race was a nice experience. Hence, I will definitely return to Curacao but unfortunately without my bike..."

Terpstra was pleased with his victory

"I'm exhausted, but happy," he said after the event. He recently rode the Six Days of Amsterdam and he was aware of the advantage that the track event had given hum.

"Of course the other riders have stopped their season earlier so they have not raced or rained for while. Then it is hard to go here. It's just really hard," Terpstra said.

In addition to Alberto Contador, Terpstra is the only rider that has won the race twice. It was the 13th and final edition of the event.
