Being the defending Paris-Roubaix champion, Niki Terpstra is naturally one of the favourites for the fifth stage of the Tour de France. However, the Dutchman says that the race will not even be comparable to the Queen of the Classics.
Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team met with the media on Thursday for a press conference prior to the 101st edition of the Tour de France. The following text are comments made by Niki Terpstra.
On the cobbled stage after winning Paris-Roubaix
I think we cannot compare this stage with the one-day classic Paris-Roubaix. Roubaix has 26 cobblestone section, while this stage we have eight half sections. I'm going to do my best to get in front, but don't expect it to be like a classic. But I'm happy to be back in the region. I like to race there. It's going to be a good race, especially the last 20 kilometers. The cobbles suit me well, but of course there are other stages for us. Of course the main goal is to be there for Mark, but we will always do our best to be present if there is a moment to get a good result.
On the hopes of the team in 2014 after four wins in 2013
Of course I think we can try and have similar success as we did last year. Especially when there is wind, we like to do a lot of attacks. So, if there is opportunity we will try it. But you cannot always plan these chances. If you're in the races and you feel the wind will change direction and it will be good to try something, you have to attack it. It isn't always something you anticipate. If there is a chance you must be there and then go for it.
