Today Edward Theuns will give everything to take the overall victory in the Four Days of Dunkirk. Yesterday he got a mental boost when he beat race leader Bryan Coquard in the sprint, albeit only for fourth place.
"I sprinted because it was a very dangerous finish and I definitely wanted to be up front. Gaps could occur," Theuns told Het Nieuwsblad. "Furthermore, I think you should always sprint for your place when you're in front. The bonuses were gone, but I have dealt Coquard a small blow. That gives a mental boost. Saturday is the day of the Mont Cassel stage. I hope I will continue to feel good after the many climbs. It will be decided on the Mont Cassel. Then the Four Days of Dunkirk is over. I want to do everything to distance Coquard. I am not aiming for anything less than the victory."
"Saturday is the decisive day," team manager Walter Planckaert said. "Coquard can win the tace, but Theuns can too. We have here a very strong team and the chance of victory is real. We also have a numerical majority because Europcar only have seven riders. Theuns is also stronger than Coquard. I have high hopes."
The last Belgian winner late in Dunkirk was Johan Museeuw in 1997.
