Sky is hungry for success in the Classics and they are turning to Bradley Wiggins, Geraint Thomas and Ian Stannard to deliver it. Thomas told VeloNews he thinks the key to their success could be the three men being together in the final, This worked for Etixx-Quick Step with Boonen, Terpstra and Stybar in the final at Roubaix last year.

“I think strength in numbers is key really, when it comes to the classics,” Geraint Thomas told VeloNews, rolling to the start line of the Dubai Tour last week.

“I think we’ve got a strong team for the classics. Hopefully Ian [Stannard] stays fit and healthy, and Brad. I think we can look to do something,” Thomas said.

Thomas isn’t picky about what Classic he excels in, he just wants to perform well and get the results his talent merits.

“I’ll try and hit the [classics] block in good shape, good form, and try to get what I can out of it,” Thomas said. “I’m not too fussed what race. I’ll take anything, really. But I’m looking forward to them. They’re the early-season goals.”

One man who is picky is Bradley Wiggins. Stannard and Thomas lead the Classics campaign, but Wiggins only has eyes for Paris-Roubaix, where Thomas and Stannard will support him and play Plan B.

“Roubaix is what [Wiggins] is targeting, but I think we’ll have a few cards, a few options, and we can go from there. We’ll race it on the road,” Thomas said.
