After claiming his career's greatest victory in Dwars door Vlaanderen this week, Jelle Wallays emphasized his intentions to enter the WorldTour ranks as soon as possible while talking with the Belgian press.

Wallays, who upset the sprinters by winning the Paris-Tours from a two-man breakaway last year, this time triumphed solo while the runner-up spot was taken by his equally talented Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise team-mate Edward Theuns. The 25-year old Belgian admits that a success in a race like Dwars door Vlaanderen was needed in order to confirm his potential, and now he is ready to ride in a support of one of the biggest classics stars.

„I'd like to join one of the WorldTour teams,” Wallays told Het Nieuwsblad on Wednesday.

„I'm sure that I'm capable of riding in a support of a strong leader,” the 25-year old Belgian told Sporza the other day. „Someone like Cancellara? I would definitely want to work for him. That should be fun. We'll see what happens after the Paris-Roubaix, though – we should have everything more clarified by then.”

According to Wielerflits, Wallays might be provided with a chance of riding for Cancellara, as Trek Factory Racing is one of three WorldTour teams reportedly interested in signing the Dwars door Vlaanderen winner. The other two are Belgian Etixx-Quick Step and Lotto-Soudal.
