After Roman Kreuziger had his appeal to CAS dismissed, Tinkoff-Saxo have finalized their Vuelta roster. Jesus Hernandez will take the final spot in a team that is targeting stage victories.
Yesterday Tinkoff-Saxo announced the first 8 riders on their Vuelta a Espana roster but they kept a spot open for Roman Kreuziger in case he had his provisional suspension overturned. Today CAS ruled against the Czech whose provisional suspension will remain in place peding a final decision.
Instead, Jesus Hernandez takes the final spot on the team and he will line up alongside Alberto Contador, Sergio Paulinho, Oliver Zaugg, Daniele Bennati, Matteo Tossato, Michael Valgren, Chris Anker Sørensen and Ivan Rovny in the Spanish grand tour. With Contador coming back from injury, the team will go into the race with a focus on stage wins and won't aim at the general classification.
“It’s going to be a special race for us," sports director Philippe Mauduit said. "Just like the last part of the Tour de France, we’ll take one stage at a time.
"Our line-up offers a number of opportunities. With Alberto we have the chance of participating in the high mountain stage finishes and on the medium mountain stages and in the more flat terrain, we have a series of riders who will be able to nail the stage win that we are targeting in this year’s edition of the Vuelta.
"Alberto crashed and broke his leg during the Tour and I’m not sure of it’s plausible to aim for the overall win after only a few weeks of hard training in the mountains but we will flash the jersey in the race and you will notice us."
