Chris Froome (Team Sky) made history becoming the first British rider to win the Tour de France twice after a dominating performance during the three weeks of intense Grand Tour racing. 

Froome was backed by a strong Team Sky and they rode across the finish line together in celebration on the Champs Elysees in Paris on Sunday evening. Froome finished 1:12 ahead of Nairo Quintana, with the Colombian’s Movistar teammate Alejandro Valverde finishing third at 5:25. 
 

Froome scored 200 UCI WorldTour ranking points for his overall victory and picked up a further 38 points thanks to his success during the 21 stages. He now has a total of 422 points and is second in the individual ranking. Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) remains the leader after his third place overall behind Froome and Quintana in the Tour de France. The Spaniard scored 132 points during the Tour de France to push his points total to 482. Giro d’Italia winner Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) is third with 407 points.

Movistar dominated the team’s classification at the Tour de France, beating Team Sky by almost an hour but thanks to the points scored by Froome, the British squad is back at the top of the ranking with 1219 points. Movistar is second with 1092 points, with Katusha third with 1038 points. Spain continues to lead the nations rankings thanks to the strength in depth of Spanish riders.

The UCI WorldTour continues through the summer and into the autumn with further one-day classics and stage racing. The Vuelta a Espana Grand tour is only a few weeks away and the next race on the UCI WorldTour calendar in the Clasica San Sebastian in northern Spain on August 1.
