BMC Racing Team's Greg Van Avermaet finished fifth in the bunch sprint that capped the Vattenfall Cyclassics Sunday.
André Greipel (Lotto Soudal) won the 221.3-kilometer race in Germany ahead of Alexander Kristoff (Katusha Team) and Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek Factory Racing).
"Because we did not have a bunch sprinter, the plan was to have Greg Van Avermaet not do any work and wait for the final sprint to see what he could do," BMC Racing Team Sporting Manager Allan Peiper said. "Ben Hermans was helping Greg in the last few kilometers and putting him into a good position."
