Jurgen Van den Broeck will return to the Tour de France next year. The 32-year-old Belgian has been told by the Katusha management that he should get ready for the biggest race in the world. He will prepare himself in Andorra where he will train with team leader Joaquim Rodriguez to be fully fit for the race that has been the scene of his biggest successes but which he missed in his final year at Lotto Soudal.
"I am extremely pleased. I'm really looking forward to it. First my new employer waited for the route presentation to decide which two grand tours I will do in 2016. Team manager José Azevedo is convinced that I have not lost any of my qualities. It is nice that this team has so much confidence in me," Van den Broeck told Het Noeuwsblad during the presentation of the new Katusha project in Calpe.
"Next year I will have largely the same schedule as Joaquim Rodriguez. The first goals are the Ardennes classics where 'Purito' is the leader but I can play my role for him. After the Tour, I will do the Vuelta, also with him."
The only Belgian at Katusha will start the season in February at the Tour of Oman. He will have his first big race with Rodriguez in Tirreno-Adriatico.
