European cyclocross champion Lars van der Haar has finished just off the podium at the muddy Flandriencross today at Hamme, the third round of the Bpost Bank Trofee series.
Van der Haar spent the majority of the race in a select chase group behind Wout Van Aert (Vastgoedservice-Golden Palace) who broke clear on the very first lap before soloing to an impressive victory. Disappointed to not have made the podium, van der Haar explained to us a bit more about how the race panned out.
“It was a good race for me, but too bad I’m not on the podium at the end. But I have made a big step forward with this kind of heavy races. It’s a shame I fell when Sven overtook me, not on TV, so I had to chase behind Kevin (Pauwels) and Mathieu (van der Poel). I just could not close the gap and I could get Mathieu back in the last lap”
He now sits third in the competition with the next race in the series on December 5 in Essen.
