Stage 2 of the Vuelta is expected to be for the sprinters. The riders have to overcome a climb of third category. This is considered to be the only big obstacle of this stage. However, there are a few more uncategorized hills before the finish.
Tosh Van der Sande gives his insight on todays' stage.
"Today is my first chance to sprint in the Vuelta. The course is harder than it seems on the profile and the roads go up and down all the time. Even though there are several climbs, I do think that we will have a bunch sprint in the end. There are several teams that want to give their sprinter a chance to win today. Of course we have to watch out for the breakaway. If there are only three to five riders in front, then a sprint can still be expected. But the situation changes if they are with ten or more riders and various teams are represented. However, if we get a bunch sprint, I think that we need to watch out for Bonifazio (Trek-Segafredo), Meersman (Etixx – Quick-Step), Arndt (Giant-Alpecin) and hopefully myself.”
