Johan Vansummeren and Belgian national coach Carlo Bomans have both said it: Jelle Vanendert can peak like no other. "In 2015, I aim at Amstel Gold Race, Flèche Wallonne, Liège, perhaps the Tour and the autumn classics like Lombardy and the Canadian races," 29-year old tells Sporza at the Lotto-Soudal training camp in Spain

In 2011, Jelle Vanendert made history when he became the first Belgian to win a mountain stage in the Tour de France, beating his rivals on the climb to Plateau de Beille.

Vanendert is attracted by the magnitude of the Tour and the attraction is no less in 2015: "A number of finishes suit me. I want to focus on them and regard them as one-day races.

"I think of Plateau de Beille, Mur de Huy and Mûr-de-Bretagne. When I saw those finishes, I immediately found a great motivation to go to the Tour. For the rest, I will try to support  Tim (Wellens ), Tony (Gallopin) and Andre (Greipel) in the Tour."

Vanendert will continue to focus on the tough one-day races. But until now, he has been unable to win a big classics. In 2012 and 2014 he was second in the Amstel Gold Race and in 2015 he was 6th in Fleche Wallonne and 11th in Liege. "Until the final day of my career, I will continue to try to win a classics unless someone in the team turns out to be much better than me and I will have to ride in support of him. I will have no problem with that job."

Last year Vanendert extended his contract. "I earn less but I have more security and a number of bonuses. It's not like that they have stolen my money but with the bonuses I have a chance to get back the money. That is motivating."

Since 2009, Vanendert has been part of the Lotto team and he still feels good there. "I am satisfied with my status in the squad and the peloton. I'm not such a bad rider and think that I will be a permament rider in this team."
