Lieuwe Westra was training in the area of Monaco when he crashed and went down hard. The cyclist from Astana looked at his bike computer and missed a pothole on the road. Westra landed on his knee and sent the result of his crash to his fans on Twitter, revealing a nasty wound.
"The damage is fortunately not serious. I am thankfully fine," Westra said in a response. The Astana rider prepares for Tirreno-Adriatico, which starts on March 11 with a team time trial. Westra should assist leader Vincenzo Nibali in the hunt for the GC victory of the stage race. The crash shouldn’t hamper his preparation too much.
