According to the local newspaper Diario de Mallorca, Bradley Wiggins plans his assault on the Hour Record for next July or August. The news were spread by the El Palma Arena velodrome technical director Joan Llaneras, who personally discussed that issue with the 34-year old Briton in Mallorca.
Wiggins has spent several last weeks in Mallorca which he now considers his second home, and following discussions revealed that he might be interested in making his anticipated attempt at the El Palma Arena on the Spanish island. He also confirmed – what has been already suggested – that it could happen in July or August 2015.
As high temperatures significantly improve riders’ performances on the track, Wiggins wisely wants to benefit from scorching heats typical for Mallorca during summer months. This way, the 34-year old Briton also wants to make up for what the El Palma Arena lacks altitude-wise, as record attempts usually happen at velodromes situated much higher above the sea level.
“Wiggins wants to break the record of the time in Mallorca in Palma Arena and fill the public velodrome. And he is convinced that this will mobilize thousands of English fans to travel on holiday to the island to see his attempt," Llaneras told the newspaper.
“He considers Mallorca as his home and therefore wants to face the record on the island."
