In his final time trial in Switzerland, Fabian Cancellara (Trek) bid farewell to the home public in the way he had wanted as he claimed a 10th time trial title in convincing fashion. The Trek rider beat Reto Hollenstein (IAM) into second while Thierry Schir had to settle for third.

Last week Fabian Cancellara got back on track after an injury- and illness-marred spring when he won the prologue at the Tour de Suisse. Changed weather conditions denied him the win in the long time trial but that only spurred him on for the final home time trial of his long career.

Today Cancellara rolled down the ramp for the Swiss national championships which he has dominated for more than a decade. Since he took his first title in 2002 after having taking silver one year earlier, he has won whenever he has been at the start. Only the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2015 are missing from his palmares as he chose to forgo the race in those editions.

Cancellara was the overwhelming favourite for today's race and he left nothing to chance on the 41km course in Martigny. The Trek captain continued to remain unbeaten in the race since 2002 as he beat Reto Hollenstein and Thierry Schir to claim a 10th and final title before his retirement at the end of the year.

One of his biggest pre-race rivals, Stefan Küng (BMC), crashed out of the race.

Cancellara will now turn his attention to the road race where he hopes to take a third win after his victories in 2009 and 2011.
