Being an excellent climber, Fabio Aru still needs to improve in the time trials before he can realistically contend for the wins in grand tours. Yesterday he did his first session of wind tunnel testing in California.
Fabio Aru has had a day of testing in Morgan Hill, California. The young Italian started his preparation for 2015 in the wind tunnel where he collected important data ahead of next season.
"I am happy with the work," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "This is the first time for me but I really wanted to get a feeling of the wind tunnel."
The main objective was to improve one of his few weak points: his performances in time trials which have become a real Achilles heel for the Sardinian. He feels that he has "improved a lot in the time trials during 2014" but is "aware that there's still a lot of work to do."
The technical staff and the Specialized center were equally satisfied, explaining that they made changes to Aru's position and the way he pedals. According to engineer Chris Yu, the Astana rider will now be able "to save as much energy as possible in the grand tours and so improve his performance in the time trials."
