The 19-years old Yerlan Pernebekov currently riding for the Astana Continental team has died from a stroke after complaining of a severe headache during the participation at a training camp held in Ecuador. Tragic news were announced yesterday via the official website of the official website of the Astana world Tour unit.
The cyclist was together with his Astana Continental teammates at a training camp in Ecuador on 14 March and had finished his daily routine when he began complaining of a severe headache around dinner time and was immediately hospitalized – Medical staff later explained that Yerlan suffered a burst blood vessel, which led to a stroke – The rider was placed into an artificial coma and team trainer Vladimir Remyga never left his side -
Unfortunately and in spite of every effort by doctors and medical staff, Yerlan could not be saved – Pernebekov passed away today without regaining consciousness – he was 19 years old -
Astana team management along with representatives from Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry are currently working to bring Yerlan home to Kazakhstan -
