Unipublic, organizer of the Vuelta a Espana, is studying a stage finish in the Navarran town of Urdazubi-Urdax for the third week of the 2016 race.

Next year the Vuelta could visit Navarra after the finish in San Miguel de Aralar in 2014 and the Grand Depart from Pamplona in 2012. Urdazubi-Urdax is the most likely option . "The deal is not closed although there have been contacts and talks between the two parties," Diario de Navarra  wrote two days ago.

"The intention is to have a stage finale in Navarra after a start in France, in the third part of the race. The stage will be held in a weekend, on a Friday or Monday," the Navarre newspaper explained.

According to Unipublich, Urdazubi-Urdax "is the most likely option, although it is not the only one" and the organizers also explain that "we do not want a stage that is very tough."

Tony Martin won a stage in the Navarran town in the 2014 Vuelta al Pais Vasco when Alberto Contador led the race.

Urdax is located in the region of Baztán 80 kilometers from the capital Pamplona. The Basque name is Urdazubi and the official name is Urdazubi / Urdax.

The 2016 Vuelta will start in Galicia with five stages. The race will take off from Ourense; Pontevedra will host the finish of the second stage; the third will finish in O Ézaro (Dumbría), the first uphill finish; the fourth will go from Betanzos to San Andres de Teixido (Cedeira) and the fifth will finish in Lugo.
