There will be no Bayern Rundfahrt in 2017. This message, which circulated as early as last week, was confirmed Monday by the organizers on request of radsport-news.com.
"Since we have not yet found a new main sponsor, the Bayern Rundfahrt will also not be held in 2017 as things stand now," said race director Ewald Stroh, eier, who declined to comment on future plans.
In 2016, Germany's only stage race was cancelled after 36 consecutive editions due to the withdrawal former sponsor, the Bayerischen Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken. Since then, Strohmeier and his team which also includes many volunteers, have tried to find a new financial backer.
