Bardiani was a surprise wildcard recipient for the GP Plouay but the Italian team proved themselves worthy of the invitation. The team rode an aggressive race and only a few metres separated Sonny Colbrelli from the chance at sprinting for the win.
Bardiani lined up at the GP Plouay with the intention of proving themselves worthy of their invitation and with Sonny Colbrelli and Enrich Battaglin, the team had two potential winners on the hilly course. After Stefano Pirazzi had been part of the early break and Edoardo Zardini and Francisco Bongiorno had attacked on the final laps, the two captains played a key role in the finale.
Battaglin was the first rider to bridge the gap to the strong 7-rider group that had dominated the final part of the race and when the decisive break took off with 3km to go, Colbrelli was just metres from bridging the gap. Instead, he was caught by the peloton and the team left the race empty-handed.
”We missed a spot in the top-10 to crown a good day for all the team," sports director Mirko Rossato said. "We took our responsability several times in the final laps, working hard for Colbrelli and Battaglin. Both tried to attack in the last passage on Côte de Ty Marrec.
"Colbrelli was in a good position at the top of the climb but he missed the last decisive break by a few metres. In a possible sprint he would have had a great chance. Anyway I can be satisfied with the attitude showed by the guys. We go home after two positive weeks in France with important victories and strong performances."
