Jonas Ahlstrand was signed by the Cofidis team for the 2015 season as he was set to play a key role in the lead-out train for Nacer Bouhanni. However, he has not done much racing with his team captain and has instead followed a separate programme.
In a team stacked with sprinting talent, that hasn’t left him many personal opportunities though but he has been good at grabbing his chances. He won a stage in the 4 Days of Dunkirk and today he won the final stage of the Tour de l’Eurometropole after having worked for teammaes Louis Verhelst and Michael van Staeyen in the first three road stages.
"This is an important victory for the sponsor which has its Belgian headquarter here in Tournai," he told Directvelo. "On the last climb I was a cloc. I followed the train of Lotto-Soudal which brought everything back. In the last kilometer, I could count on the help of Adrien Petit and Michael van Staeyen. The latter did an incredible job to positioned me before the last corner. Then I launched my sprint. It was tight but I could win. To win late in the season is nice for the winter preparation. I won two races this season. I hope to win more next year.
"In the end of the stage it went fast. Several riders tried to avoid a bunch sprint but eventually that didn't happen In the final kilometers we took the team to the front of the pack behind Tinkoff-Saxo. It was Michael Van Staeyen and Adrien Petit who led me out. It was full speed to the finish line. I could come out at the right time and, thanks to my teammates, take the win."
