Alberto Contador took the overall win at the Vuelta al Pais Vasco last week with a stunning performance in the individual time trial on the final day of the race that saw him take both the stage win and the overall GC.
Now 33 year old, Contador had planned for the current 2016 season to be his last as an active rider but now seems to have had a change of mind after a successful campaign so far.
Contador finished on the podium at the Volta ao Algarve, Paris-Nice and Volta a Catalunya, and then claimed his first overall win at the Tour of the Basque Country on Saturday.
Speaking after the race, he said: "Recently, I have been pondering and thinking about my future with my entourage and, most probably, I will continue riding. I'm sure this isn't the last time I come here."
Contador boasts a reputation as one of the most successful stage racers in the history of the sport, winning all three grand tours at least twice.
In what was supposed to be his Tour de France swansong this year, he will be aiming to claim the Tour de France crown for the third time.
Should Contador decide to continue racing, he will need to find a new team, as his current squad, Tinkoff, are set to close at the end of this year.
Given his palmares, however, that shouldn’t pose too big a problem for the Spaniard.
