Alexis Gougeard won’t start stage 5 at the Criterium du Dauphine . He crashed on thursday and suffers from a contusion of his left leg and a wound on the side of left knee. He has 10 stitches.

"I was on the wheel of Sam (Samuel Dumoulin). I had to lead him out for the sprint,” Gougeard said yesterday. “When I tried to go to move ahead of him, a Cofidis rider hit something at the side of the road.He crashed and I was just behind. 
 

”We were going at 50/60km/h. I was not able to avoid it. I tried to crash well not to break anything. I have a wound on the knee. We'll have to look after it properly. "

Gougeard will now try to recover for the French Championships and the Tour de France.
