Today Madonna di Campiglio was the scene of the second and final rest day of the Giro d'Italia for the Movistar Team and much of the caravan of the 'Corsa Rosa'. The riders led by Garcia Acosta and Jaimerena used the opportunity to relax their mind and keep their body in tune on the same mountain that hosted the finish of the 15th stage, as Andrey Amador, third in the GC, explained: "We went down to the village and climbed back to the hotel to keep the body going."
"Yesterday I honestly saw a trend. I was a little bit behind, but with every day I am surprising myself with what I am achieving. I'm happy to be here, to be fighting at my pace. I know what I can give," said the Costa Rican who had feared "the penultimate climb (Passo Daone), the most demanding, but I think I had good legs. We were a group of only seven riders (following the descent); no one was saving anything, everybody gave 100%. I knew that at some point I was going to pay for it," but fortunately he was only dropped with 3km to go when he had to led Trofimov, Contador, Aru and Landa go.
"Tomorrow will be very complicated. We do Campo Carlo Magno from the start, then Tonale, then Mortirolo, Aprica two times, which will be hard at the end. Yes, I have respect yes but not fear and I think you always have to think big. Anyone can have a difficult day. I am motivated to win and will try to maintain and defend my position and improve where I can. I have never been in this situation to fight for the GC on all climbs and am very happy and proud of what I have achieved and pleased with the effort so far."
"It was a very hard Giro. We've had enough rain in the second week and there has been no day where you could say 'let's have a rest', as we have had in previous editions. Every day, including flat ones, have been animated, and both tomorrow and the coming days will be more of the same," he said before praising his teammates. "It's a great group that is like a family. Real friends are always there and I think we have to keep looking for the stages and fight for this nice position."
Finally, he sends a message to all his Costa Rican fans. "I can not reply to everydbody but I am totally grateful for the support they have given me. What I have got until now is dedicated to them."
