In stage 18 of the Giro d'Italia, Androni Sidermec again tried to escape in the first part of the race, attacking with Gianfranco Zilioli and Marco Frapporti but their attempts were neutralized by the group. Later Frapporti managed to enter the escape which later characterized most of the day but he was dropped from the group a little later.
The squad had hoped that Franco Pellizotti would give visibility to the team when the race begun in earnest. In fact, the captain of the team directed by Gianni Savio and Giovanni Ellena remained with the best on the two climbs of Saint Barthelemy and Saint Pantaleon and on the final ascent to Cervinia.
Pellizotti has dropped five kilometers from the finish but still scored a respectable twentieth place in the stage won by Fabio Aru.
Androni Sidermec defended Marco Bandiera's lead in the sprints and aggressiveness competitions.
