After a great third place in the prologue, Marc Sarreau (FDJ) was left frustrated when he punctured in the finale of the first stage of the Tour de l'Ain. Today he could only manage 11th in the final sprint stage.
"It was big fight in the finale," he told Directvelo. "I lost the wheel of Kévin Reza in the last kilometer. In the last corner I was on the wheel of Rudy (Barbier). He finished 2nd, I was 11th. This is not a good result. I'm especially disappointed for the team as they had done a great job. It does not reflect the work they did.
"I have not done a lot of sprints among the professionals. I still do too much in the finale while the other sprinters are serene. I'm still not used to it."
