Following the doping positives of Maxim and Valentin Iglinskiy from the Astana team and Ilya Davidenok from the Continental Team Astana, Kazakhstan has been hit by another doping scandal. The UCI has announced that Viktor Okishev from the continental team has tested positive for Anabolic Androgenic Steroids in a sample collected at the Asian Cycling Championships on 29 May 2014.

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announces that it has notified UCI Continental Team Astana Kazakh rider Victor Okishev of an Adverse Analytical Finding of Anabolic Androgenic Steroids in a sample collected at the Asian Cycling Championships on 29 May 2014.

The rider has the right to request and attend the analysis of the B sample.

In accordance with UCI Anti-doping Rules, the rider has been provisionally suspended until the adjudication of the affair.

The positive test comes just weeks after the positives of the Iglinskiy brothers Maxim and Valentin and Ilya Davidenok. As the latter rode as a stagiaire for Astana in the second half of the season, the UCI has asked the License Commission to review the license of Astana. The cases could potentially cost the Kazakh team their spot in the WorldTour, meaning that riders like Tour de France winner Vincenzo Nibali would no longer be guaranteed a spot in the biggest races. Even though Okishev has not been riding for the WorldTour team, the new case will certainly not do the Kazakh WorldTour tean any good.

At this stage of the procedure, the UCI will not comment any further.
