Tom Dumoulin once again showed that he belongs to the time trialing elite when he took an excellent 6th in today's stage of the Vuelta al Pais Vasco. The result capped a solid week for the young Giant-Shimano team that saw young Daan Olivier finish 21st in his first ever WorldTour race.
Tom Dumoulin continued his strong performances against the clock today with a sixth place in the final stage time trial of Pais Vasco.
Dumoulin finished the 25.9km time trial just 38 seconds down on stage winner Tony Martin (OPQS).
Daan Olivier also did a strong ride to finish in 37th place to finish off a strong performance in his first ever WorldTour race.
Team Giant-Shimano coach Addy Engels said:
“Tom looked really strong today – a good position and smooth.
“Sixth is a good result and to only loose 38 seconds to Martin is a strong ride. He went out a bit easy and lost all the time in the first half. But it’s still a strong performance.
“It has been a satisfying week all in all, finishing with seven riders in one of the toughest races on the calendar, and we only lost Georg Preidler due to knee problems. It is a sign that team is growing in general, and that the young guys are getting stronger and stronger.”
