Russian National Champion Aleksandr Porsev once again was very close to the podium, taking another 4th place at the second stage of the prestigious stage race Dubai Tour in UAE.
"In general, I am satisfied with today’s sprint though the final was not easy at all. I had to spend some power to find the appropriate wheel for the sprint. So in the end I maybe missed some freshness in my legs, but anyway, once again, I managed to finish among the leaders. I thank the team for its support during the stage. It was another day I’ve got a huge help from my teammates. Today I was 4th, but we still have one sprinter’s stage, I will try to reach the podium," said Aleksandr Porsev.
The second stage of 187 km with finish on the famous “palm” island at the Palm Jumeirah Atlantis Hotel ended with another massive sprint, where the first four places were taken by the same riders as in yesterday’s stage 1.
This time Elia Viviani from Sky became the stage winner by outsprinting yesterday’s winner and race leader Mark Cavendish from Etixx – Quick Step, Andrea Guardini from Astana and Aleksandr Porsev, who took the 4th place.
The breakaway of the day was consisting of 3 riders, getting a good advantage of more than 5 minutes. Closer to the final of the stage just one rider Rafaâ Chtioui from SkyDive Dubai still remained in front. The peloton caught him with only 10km to go.
Right after that moment the sprinter’s teams went in the first positions to bring their leaders to the front. Team Katusha was very active in the final, working hard for Aleksandr Porsev.
After two stages Mark Cavendish is still the GC leader of the Dubai Tour. Aleksandr Porsev is 10th, 16 seconds behind the leader.
Tomorrow the decisive hilly stage (205km from Dubai to Hatta Dam) will take place, with a short steep climb in the finish.
