With podiums in three stages, Ramunas Navardauskas did an excellent Tour of Alberta and crowned his performance with the points jersey. The Lithuanian ended the race by taking third in the final stage.
Ramunas Navardauskas excelled in the Tour of Alberta whose fast, windy racing with its many sprints, suited the Lithuanian down to the ground. With three podium spots in five road stages, he won the points jersey after having narrowly missed the stage win on several occasions.
Like in most other sprints, he paid for poor positioning in the final stage where he sprinted to third. Like in stage 2, he lost too many positions in the corners which made it impossible to pass stage winner Daryl Impey who benefited from an excellent lead-out.
"You could see that they had six guys on the front pulling," he said. "And you already knew what was happening, so you just had to stay on the wheel and wait until the last 300-200 meters to go. That's what I was trying to do, but then in the corners I lost a couple of positions. In the last 200 meters I was fifth position and I went from there."
