For the second time in three days, Marco Haller got close to a stage victory in his home race in the Tour of Austria when he finished third in the fourth stage of the race. The Austrian admitted that Juan Jose Lobato and Oscar Gatto are currenly a bit faster than him.
Exactly the same podium in Matrel after Stage 4 of the Tour of Austria as after Stage 2 where Team Katusha's Marco Haller finished third behind Oscar Gatto (Cannondale) and Juan José Lobato (Movistar).
"On the one hand I am a little bit disappointed, but on the other hand I have to admit that these two guys are maybe just a little bit faster than me for the moment," Haller said. "But I don't give up. On Sunday there is anther good opportunity for me.
"Compared to two days ago today was a really hard stage and it was raining all day long. At 25 kilometer from the finish we decided to help to chase back a breakaway as we believed in my chances. We caught the break with five k to go and then I prepared to do my best sprint uphill.
"I did my best, I like uphill sprints, but I took 3rd place. Anyway, a podium place is always a good result."
Maxim Belkov again did a very good race, attacking in the beginning of the race and taking some points for his leadership in the mountain classification. As result, after 4 stages Belkov is still the best climber of the Tour of Austria.
Tomorrow the Glockner stage awaits the riders. They go from Matrei to Sankt-Johann. Peter Kennaugh (Sky) still leads the race.
